Barr rejects suggestions of school closure agenda
From ABC News
The ACT’s Education Minister has rejected claims the Government has decided to save up to seven of the 39 schools slated for closure in Canberra.
There are suggestions today that several schools, including Dickson College and Tharwa Primary, will not be forced to shut as part of Budget cutbacks.
But Andrew Barr says no decisions have yet been made, and it is unhelpful for anyone to claim there is an agenda already in place.
“It is just simply that, pure speculation, no decisions have been made, the decisions will be made at the end of the consultation period and that’s going to be in December this year,” Mr Barr said.
“We’re one month into it, there are five months to go, a whole range of meetings and forums will be held between now and then and the government will make decisions at the end of that process.”
